Dr.Mangalampalli Balamurali
Krishna was born in 1930 in Andhra Pradesh. Among our distinguished
Carnatic vocalists, Balamurali Krishna was a student of Parupalli Ramakrishnaiah
Pantulu. Gifted with a mellifluous voice, he has created his own style
known for its lyrical appeal.
He has also composed a whole range of
Kritis, Varnams, Padams, Tillanas as well as new ragas. He has to his
credit a number of books.
Balamurali Krishna has served on the staff
of All India Radio and was Principal of the College of Music and Dance
at Vijayawada. He has performed widely in India and abroad. He received
the Padma Shri in 1971 and subsequently the Padma Vibhushan, the Sangeeth
Natak Akademi Award in 1975 and the Sangeeta Kalanidhi title from the
Music Academy, Madras in 1979, the National Award as best playback singer
and Music Director, and the prestigious Hridaynath Mangeeshkar and the
Sevaliar awards.
