K.V.Narayanaswamy

 

Born in Palghat in 1923, K.V Naraynaswamy is one of the leading Carnatic vocalists. Among the musicians who have contributed to his training are his grandfather Kollengode V.Narayana Bhagavathar, his father Kollengode N.Viswanatha Bhagavathar, Palghat T.S.Mani Iyer, C.S.Krishna Iyer, Papa K.S.Venkataramaiah and Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar.

Acknowledged as one of the foremost representatives of the Ariyakudi Bani in Carnatic music, K.V.Narayanaswamy has performed widely.

He has also taught Carnatic music at the Wesleyan University in the United States and has been Professor of vocal music at the Tamil nadu Government Music College, Chennai.

He is a recipient of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi award and the Padma Shri. For his contribution to Carnatic music he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1976.
