Kiran Segal - odissi

Kiran Segal is a leadig exponent of Odissi dance. She was initiated in dance by her mother zohra Segal. She was first groomed as a Bharatanatyam dancer by gurus includig Sadashiv Shetty, Sadashiv Aiyyer, Naana Kasar and K.J.Govindarajan. subsequently she received training in Odissi under Guru Mayadhar Raut.

In the last two decades, Kiran Segal has emerged as a dancer of consummate artistry. Her art is characterized by sensitive embellishments and a rare intensity. She has enriched the Odissi style with her own compositions and choreographic works, Ramayana being the most recent work.

Kiran Segal hs performed extensively. She has been featured in all the major national festivals of dance, in the Fesitvals of India in USSR and various other international events. She has also contributed to the propagation of Odissi dance by lecture-demonstratins in schools and colleges.

She has been honoured with several awards including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award of Dehi (1986).
