N.Ramani

 
N.Ramani was born at Tiruvarur in Tamil Nadu in 1934. He received his initial training in music from his grandfather, Shri A.Narayanaswamy Iyer, and later, for over ten years, he was a student of T.R.Mahalingam. Over the last three decades, he has established himself as one of the leading flutists in Carnatic music. He has given innumerable performances in India and abroad. He has also set up an institution, the Ramani Academy of Flute, in Chennai for research and training in flute where he has trained a number of students.

N.Ramani was declared a State Artist by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1981 and was awarded the title of Kalaimamani by the Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Manram in 1973. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1984 and Padma Shri in 1987.
