Prerna
Shrimali is among the front ranking Kathak dancers of the new generation.
She received training from Guru Kundan Lal Gangani at Kathak Kendra,
Delhi, and has emerged as a leading exponent of the Jaipur school. She
displays innovative skill without compromising the dignity of the tradition.
Prerna Shrimali has performed widely in India and abroad, participating in important arts events including the Festival of India in Britain and the Soviet Union. She has choreographed new compositions based on the poems of Kalidas, Meerabai, Padmakar and Keshavadas. Her recent work Reaching for Each other” presented in the Avignon Festival in 1995, has been acclaimed by critics. Prerna Shrimali currently teaches Kathak at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi. She
received the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1993.
