Raman
Narain is the best-known Sarangi players today. He was born in 1927
in Udaipur. He received his early training in music from his father
Nathuji Biawat and later studied with Udaylal, Madhav Prasad and Abdul
Wahid Khan. His style has the flavour of the Kirana gharana, but with
distinctive personal touches.
Known
for his impeccable and effortless technique, Ram Narain has performed
widely in India and abroad. He has helped the Sarangi achieve the status
of a solo concert instrument. A recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma
Bhushan, he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1975.
