Ranjana Gauhar
A
well-known Odissi dancer, Ranjana Gauhar is a senior disciple
of Guru Mayadhar Raut and Shrimati Raut. She has also studied
other forms of dance like Kathak and Manipuri and has received
training in the Chau dance of Mayurbhanj from Janmejoy Sai
Babu. She has been performing for about fifteen years and
has been featured in several dance festivals in India. She
has also traveled to various countries in Europe and the Middle
East, performing at various arts centres.
Apart
from performing solo Odissi, Ranjana Gauhar has produced and
directed dance-dramas based on Odissi and Chhau styles on
traditional as well as contemporary issues. She has been teaching
dance to younger students and has set up the Utsav Education
and Cultural Society for service to the arts. She has undertaken
a series of educational projects in british schools and has
been a visiting lecturer at the Sarojini Naidu school of Performing
Arts, Hyderabad.
