V.Doreswamy
Iyengar is a well known Vainika of the mysore school. Initiated in music
by his father Venkatesha Iyengar, he later studied with Mysore Venkatagiriappa.
He is known for his chaste style of presentation. Doreswamy Iyengar
has performed widely in the country. In 1969, he participated in the
International Music Festival of Shiraz, iran. He received the Sangeet
natak Akademi Award in 1970. The Padma bhushan was conferred on him
in 1983, and the title of Sangeeta kalanidhi in 1984.
D.Balakrishna,
son and disciple of V.Doreswamy iyengar, is an accomplished Veena artist
who has performed widely.
