V.G.Jog

 
Born in 1922, Shri Vishnu govind Jog had his early training under Shankar Rao Athavale, Ganpat Rao Purohit and V.Shastry. Later he received extensive training from Dr.S.N.Ratanjankar and Ustad Allauddin Khan.

Groomed in the musical tradition of Gwalior and Agra, V.G. Jog is known for his crispness of svara and tala. He was professor of Instrumental Music at the Bhatkhande University of Music, Lucknow till 1952, and later joined All India Radio where he rose to be Deputy Chief Music Producer of Hindustani music. He has performed extensively, and has trained many disciples. V.G.Jog has taught at the Ali Akbar College of Music in Berkeley, and is now attached to Sangeet Research Academy, Calcutta. He received Padma Bhushan in 1985 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1980.
