Vaswati Mishra & Krishnan Mohan

 

Born in an illustrious family of Kathak dancers of the Luchknow gharana, Krishnan Mohan is the eldest son of the late Kathak Maestro Pandit Shambhu Maharaj. From his early childhood he received training in dance from his father and began accompanying him in performances at the age of eight. After the demise of his father, Krishan Mohan continued to receive training under his cousin Pandit Birju Maharaj. He received a Government of India scholarship for further studies and is the holder of a Diploma form Kathak Kendra, New Delhi.

A member of the staff of Kathak Kendra and a senior artist of its Production unit, he has appeared in important roles in various dance-dramas presented in India and abroad. He has performed in the Festival of India in USSR ., USA, Japan and Germany. Besides being a talented soloist, he is also a gifted percussionist, playing the Tabla, Pakhawaj and folk drums. A capable teacher, he has successfully trained a number of students. He also conducts regular workshops in the U.S.A.

Vaswati Mishra was initiated Kathak by Reba Vidyarthi and was trained later by Guru Birju Maharaj at Kathak Kendra, Delhi. An accomplished dancer, teacher and choreographer, she has found her own place among the new generation of Kathak artists. She has played lead roles in several productions of Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra where she has also taught Kathak for many years. She has also performed in the dance dramas of Birju Maharaj. Kalka bindadin Mahotsava, , Khajuraho Dance Festival and Sangeet Natak Akademi’s Nrityotsava are some of the important festivals where she has been featured. She has also performed in the Festivals of India and abroad.
