Vellore G.Ramabhadran

 
Born in 1929 in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, Vellore Gopala Ramabhadran received his training in Mridangam from his father Shri. Vellore T.P.Gopalachari. He was also trained in vocal music, Kanjira, Ghatam and Konakkol.

He made his first public appearance in 1942 as a Mridangam accompanist for Madurai Mani Iyer and has been a professional artist from his twenties. He has performed extensively, accompanying leading Carnatic vocalists and instrumentalists at home and abroad. Among other notable appearances, he was featured in the Festivals of India in U.K., U.S.A., and U.S.S.R.

He received the title Kalaimamani in 1976 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1991.
