Puspita Mishra, was trained
by Late Guru Padmashree Pankaja charan Das, the senior most among the
Gurus of Odissi. She is odisha’s pride in the indigenous odissi
dance which has now assumed international status. Her devotion to this
complex form of dance and choreographic intricacies is something spectacular
and ingenuous. Being widely acclaimed in the State and outside, Puspita
emerges as a rare artist who blends rhythmic grace and symphony in her
dance that keeps the audience in thrall. The spectator is led to believe
that Puspita in her dance is veritably an animated sculpture on the
walls of Konark temple that set the rhythm, melody and tenderness in
one composite tune. Her intricate foot work, her graceful karanas and
charis, her hand gestures and mudras, besides the expression of her
eyes simply usher the viewer into a world of beauty in gay abandon.
Currently she is practicing under Guru Sri Niranjan Rout. The first item I choreographed was Trishakti on the occasion of Puri Beach Festival 1991. Trishakti depicts the symbol of Mother goddess, kali the saviour and Laxmi the goddess of peace. It is a group item. The second item Abhinaya "Mahisha Mardani", a solo item was choreographed by me and performed by me at Cuttack Doordarshan in 1992. Here the vigour of goddess Durga is highlighted. In 1995 my 3rd choreography "Ganga Abataran" was performed by my troupe in the Puri Beach Festival. I have also choreographed and directed a dance ballet for kids "Aahe Nila Shaila" a prayer to Lord Jagannath in 1997. It was composed for Blossom School Annual Function. My recent choreography "Siba Panchakhyara Slotram", written by Tulsidas has been appreciated by the audience. It was composed in 2001 for Puri beach Festival. The latest composition for my troupe is" Panchadeva Stutee". It is a slotra in Praise of Lord Ganesh, Lord Narayan, Lord Siba, Goddess Ambika and the Sun God. It has been composed in 2002 and has been performed in four stages, so far. It was composed for National Programme of Classical dance, Delhi Doordarshan. |
