Rajeswari Satish is a carnatic vocalist currently based in the USA. Rajeswari has won critical acclaim for her many performances all over India, USA and UK. Rajeswari is known for her melodious voice, sensitive and bhava-laden rendering of kritis and ragas, adherence to tradition and variety of repertoire. Her commitment to excellence and adherence to high musical values shines through in every performance. Rajeswari is academically well qualified with a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a master’s degree in Computer Science, but her passion for music has led her to decide that she would devote her time to performing and teaching music. She originally hails from Palakkad, a district in Southern India, which is an important seat of carnatic music from where many stalwarts in the field have emerged. Rajeswari was introduced to music at a very young age by her mother Smt. Vijayam Ranganathan. She then started her tutelage at age 7 from Prof. Sri M.A. Venugopal, who imparted the fundamental aspects most sincerely to her. She then went on to receive advanced training under Sangeeta Kalacharya Palakkad Sri C.S. Krishna Iyer, a teacher and scholar of repute. Sri Krishna Iyer himself was a disciple of stalwarts like Sabhesa Iyer and Ponnayya Pillai. Rajeswari received the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship from the Government of India to pursue her music education. Rajeswari bagged numerous awards and accolades in Kerala and other parts of Southern India, both in the state and All India levels. She has performed at All India Radio regularly from 1989 and has over 20 years of concert experience. At present, Rajeswari receives guidance from Padmabhushan Sri P.S. Narayanaswami. Rajeswari has performed in major sabhas in Chennai like Kartik Fine Arts, Narada Gana Sabha, Mylapore Fine arts, Bharat Kalacahar and Hamsadhwani. Rajeswari has been featured in the Cleveland Aradhana concerts, and in several states in the US. Rajeswari has also performed in prestigious venues in the UK such as the Nehru Centre and Milapfest. A sincere and dedicated teacher, Rajeswari has taught a selected number of private students as well as served as faculty of World Music at the State University of New York. Rajeswari teaches her young daughters Shyamala and Srinidhi. Shyamala, at 11 years, shows promise as a budding vocalist.
