Rose Muralikrishnan

 

Rose Muralikrishnan one of the leading vocalist in South Indian Carnatic Music tradition was born and brought up in Chennai, India. She graduated with M.A degree in music and had her advanced voice training from the legendary musician and performer late Dr. M.L. Vasanthakumari. Rose also had an opportunity to study under many outstanding music teachers and performers such as Anandhavalli, Suguna Varadhachari, Calcutta Krishnamurthy, Dr. N. Ramanathan, and many others in Madras, India.

Rose received her Master's degree from the University of Madras and Bachelor's from Queen Mary's College, Chennai in South Indian Music performance and theory. She sang for numerous classical and devotional recordings in different South Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Sanskrit for many recording labels and organizations. She composed, directed several musical productions and her performances are often broadcasted on Indian Televisions and All India Radio.

Rose has performed numerous concerts all around the world. Before she moved to United Stated she had presented her expert interpretations of Indian classical music at major prestigious venues such as Madras Music Academy, Naradha Ghana Sabha, Krishna Ghana Sabha, and many other Sabhas. After she moved to USA she found a music school Isai Sangam Inc., along with her husband N. Muralikrishnan to promote Indian Music and culture in the United States. She has performed in the major World Music Festivals such as Music Academy of the West, the Center for Jazz and World Music Festival, CSU San Marcos International Music Festival, UCSB's Day of Music, to name a few festivals in USA. She has also performed in many prestigious theaters such as UCLA's Schonberg Hall, SDSU's Montezuma and Smith recital Hall, UCSD's Mandeville Theater USC's Annenberg Auditorium, UCLB's Carpenter's Performing Arts Theater, UCSB, Salk Institute of San Diego to add a few. She served the community through music performences and lectures to promote Indian music and culture. Her community services also include educating South Asian as well as non-music major students and other members of the community through lectures and performances in few other venues such as Palamor College, CAL Poly Pomona colleges, UCLA, USC and several high schools, community colleges and temples and in the USA.

She was an Adjunct professor of South Indian Music at the San Diego State University, USA in 1991. She worked as Principal of the music school at the Santhome Communication Center, Madras India. Before she joined the center she was a music instructor at the famous Jiddu Krishnamurthy Foundation, Rishi Valley School, Andra Pradesh, India.

Rose Muralikrishnan's unique production entitled Gayaka Vadhya Brundham for the first time live in the United States at the prestigious Carpenter's Performing Arts Center in June 1996 was a master piece of the century, where a new life was given to over 2000 year old traditional art called Vadhya Brundham (Orchestral music) of India.

While she was a principal of the Music school at Santhome Communication Center she composed, directed, conducted and sung for many music, dance drama and audio visual productions with several leading performers such as Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna, Sudha Raghunathan, Rajkumar Bharathi and many others. She composed music for several dance drama productions and worked with famous Nattuvanars such as Udupi Lakshminarayana, Adayar Lakshmanan, Dhananjayans and several others.

Rose Muralikrishnan and her students of Isai Sangam were the guest invitees to perform the Indian patriotic song of Vandhe Matharam and Indian National Anthem of Jana Gana Mana in A. R. Rahman's concert tour 2000 in LA at the famous Shrine Auditorium. As a co founder of Isai sangam Inc Rose had organized several music concerts and lecture demos series of their own and to various other community non profit organizations.

Rose had organized a Festival of India a joint venture of Isai Sangam with Calpoly Pomona's Music Department was a successful three day festival, first time in Southern California's history, where she brought many professional and amateur musicians and dancers, teachers and students of Carnatic Music under one roof to show the community spirit of oneness in Souther California region was a well appreciated pre summer production in May 2000.

Rose and her husband N. Muralikrishnan are currently developing their Spring Nectar Academy, where South Asian Fine Arts, Language Arts and Theater are going to be taught and promoted under one roof.
