Sharan Rani

 
Born in 1929 in Delhi, Shrimati Sharan Rani learnt the Sarod from eminent musicians including Ustads Allauddin Khan and Ali Akbar Khan. She has been performing on the concert stage from an early age. Tours abroad have taken her to the United States, Britain, France and the Soviet Union.

Sharan Rani has collected old and rare musical instruments, now displayed in a gallery in the National Museum, Delhi. She has several gramophone records to her credit, among them an album issued by UNESCO.

For her achievement in music, Sharan Rani was awarded the Padma Shri in 1968 and Sahitya Kala Parishad Award in Delhi in 1974. She received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani Instrumental Music in 1986.
