Shiv kumar sharma

Born in 1938 in Jammu, Shiv Kumar Sharma was initiated in Hindustani classical music by his father Pandit Umadutt Sharma. Under his guidance Shiv Kumar sharma studied the Santoor and later made modifications in the instrument that have helped it gain acceptance on the concert stage.

An adherent of the benaras gharana, Shiv Kumar Sharma has performed widely at home and abroad. He has several gramophone records and cassettes to his credit. He has also composed music for films.

Shiv Kumar Sharma received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Hindustani instrumental music in 1986 and was awarded the Padma Shri in 1991.
