An outstanding exponent of Kuchipudi dance, Swapnasundari
is among the premier dancers of India. She received her training in
the art from Gurus Pasumarthy Seetharamaiah and Vempati Chinna Satyam.
She was also trained in Bharatanatyam by K.N.Dakshinamoorty, Adyar K
Lakshman and B.Kalyanasundaram. She has studied abhinaya under Kalanidhi
narayanan and Padam singing with Shrimati S.Mukta.
Since the 1970s Swapnasundari has gained wide renown as a Kuchipudi
dancer. She has travelled extensively, presenting solo performances
as well as dance dramas. She has choreographed dance-dramas as well
as solo items, contributing new works to the Kuchipudi repertoire. During
the last few years she has been researching the temple dance traditions
of Andhra and has been receiving training from Maddula Lakshminarayana.
She has also been training young dancers at her institution, Kuchipudi
Dance Centre in Delhi. A gifted singer, she has produced audio-cassettes
of Kuchipudi dance music. Swapnasundari has received several honours
for her work including the Sahitya Kala Parishad Award of Delhi.
