Vijayalakshmi

Vijayalakshmi, born in 1962, has completed 16 years of study in Classical Indian Dance Bharata Natyam under Smt.Vyjayanthimala Bali, Smt.V.Gayatri, Shri Adyar K.Laxman and Abhinaya from Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan. She has given her maiden solo performance in January 1980 and since then, she performed regularly for the next 5 years in various venues. She is

In the year 1985, She started a dance school ‘Narthaki’ and have been training students regularly for the pat 20 years. Prior to this she was training Bharatanatyam for students at the G.D.Somani Memorial School, Cufe Parade, Mumbai and at the Bombay International school, Babulnath. Presently the classes are being conducted at the New Activity School, Kemps Corner, Mumbai.

Since NARTAKI’S inception, students have been performing regularly in public performances. Annually, the school presents a full-length concert, which proves to be a wonderful training ground for the students and exhibit their unique talent and dedication. Her students have also performed under the aegis of various organizations. To name a few :

A full length Bharatha Natyam recital of her students was held in November 2003 & 2004. A combined show with a troupe from Muscat titled PAACHAYATANAM was also conducted.in January 2005.

A bachelor of Applied & Graphic Arts from the Sophia Polytechnic, Mumbai, Vijayalakshmi is known for presenting unique shows which will enhance the knowledge of the artistes and audience of the rich mythological and cultural heritage of ancient Indian literature and traditions.

Besides imparting training in dance, she is also a Carnatic Vocalist and she accompany her students in all their stage performances.
